In the time of its Presidency, in the field of territorial cohesion, Slovenia takes over the leadership of activities for the implementation of the Territorial Agenda of the EU, established in the Action Programme.
Besides coordination and monitoring of the Action Programme implementation, Slovenia also takes over the responsibility for implementation of the first activity of this programme entitled »Prepare and promote policy options to foster coordination between spatial and urban development in the light of the Territorial Agenda and Leipzig Charter at the EU and Member States level.«. (LA1, Act 1.1.). In the efforts to reinforce the significance of the spatial and urban dimension in the European developmental policies, activities are being carried out to include messages of the Territorial Agenda of the EU and of the Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities into preparations for the spring European Council in 2008. The role of territorial diversity for achieving competitiveness and sustainable development, the role of vertically and horizontally connected comprehensive approach to prepare policies for management of spatial developmental challenges and the role of regional and local level in the implementation of the Lisbon and Gothenborg Strategy at the level of directing spatial development will be emphasized.
