The first day of the informal ministerial meeting in Ponta Delgada, the First Action Programme for the Implementation of the Territorial Agenda of the European Union for the period from 2007 to 2011 was agreed upon and a cooperation and immediate start of implementation of the activities from the programme was undertaken. Slovenia was asked to take over the coordination of implementation of the adopted programme under its Presidency.
Among other, the ministers expressed their satisfaction on inclusion of the territorial dimension into the Lisbon Treaty adopted on 18 October 2007 and reconfirmed their shared position on the role of territorial cohesion for sustainable development of the European continent.
At the meeting, a shared contribution of the ministers to the discussion on the Green Book »Adapting to Climate Change in Europe – Options for EU Action« was also approved. Ministers suggested putting more emphasis on the role of spatial planning and territorial dimensions when creating measures for adapting to climate change.
