Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities

 
Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities was adopted at an informal ministerial meeting on urban development and territorial cohesion, held in Leipzig on 24 and 25 May under the German EU Presidency. Leipzig Charter complements the Territorial Agenda of the EU. It provides guidelines for comprehensive urban development policy and offers strategies of action in the socially and economically endangered urban areas. It represents a foundation for national, regional and local policies in the field of sustainable urban management.

First Action Programme for the Implementation of the Territorial Agenda of the EU

 
First Action Programme for the Implementation of the Territorial Agenda of the EU was approved on 23 November 2007 at an Informal Ministerial Meeting on Territorial Cohesion, held in Ponta Delgada in the Azores under the Portuguese EU Council Presidency. The Action Programme provides a framework for concrete individual actions to achieve goals of the Territorial Agenda of the EU in the period from 2007 to 2011. 15 activities are defined to be performed by the Member States, the EU institutions and stakeholders. The Programme comprises five areas of activities: encouragement of inclusion of territorial priorities provided by the Territorial Agenda of the EU into national, regional and local spatial developmental policies; influence on the key dossiers of the EU and reinforcement of territorial and urban dimensions of sector policies; reinforcement of multi-level management; analysis of the situation; assessment and comparison of territorial development of the EU; perspectives and trends; harmonisation and assessment of implementation of the first Action Programme and development of the strategies of communication for territorial cohesion and sustainable spatial development.
