Nuclear Safety & Radiological Protection

Activities Foreseen in the Area of Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection during the Slovenian Presidency
 
It is expected that the Euratom and the IAEA representatives will continue mutual negotiations with regard to efficient and effective safeguards of nuclear material. The  Euratom representatives will regularly report on the subject of these negotiations during the Working Party on Atomic Questions Meetings. The High Level Group on nuclear safety and management of radioactive waste and spent fuel  will meet three times during Slovenian Presidency and it is expected to report regulary to the Working Party on Nuclear Safety (ATO). The Forum on Nuclear Energy will be held in Prague on 22-23 May 2008. European Commission will prepare a decision to start negotiations on revision of the existing agreement with Canada on the co-operation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy. Ratification processes for the Protocol amending the 1960 Paris Convention on Third Party Liability will be kept under review. Developments concerning e.g. Russia and KEDO will remain under the ATO's close watch. Review Meeting under the Convention on Nuclear Safety will be in April 2008 in Vienna. The preparatory work for this meeting will take place under the Slovenian Presidency.
 
In relation to the IAEA activities the co-ordination meetings shall take place in Vienna to shape the common statements of the EU Member States with regard to March and June Board of Governors and May Programme and Budget Committee.

 

In addition, the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration decided to support the staff of the Foreign Ministry, who are responsible for CONOP during the Slovenian Presidency.
