The Climate Protection Service supports the functioning of government bodies which are active in the field of climate change, as well as performing other strategic horizontal tasks related to the mitigation of climate change and adaptation to this change.
The Climate Protection Service performs the following tasks:
Support to the functioning of the Slovenian Committee for Climate Change Issues and other government bodies in the field of climate change; Preparation of systematic solutions for meeting the challenges of climate change; International aspects of climate change: UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, Obligations after 2012, climate change working group of the EU Council, supporting bilateral contacts in this field, etc.; Coordination of activities of directorates and bodies affiliated to the ministry in the field of climate change; Coordination of the elaboration of long-term development-oriented policies concerning the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; Development of guidelines and strategies for adapting to climate change; Coordination of measures related to the exploitation of natural resources and human intervention in the environment from the aspect of climate change; Integration of the aspect of climate change into sectoral policies; Participation in monitoring and modifying the Operational Programme for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Support to integration into processes at the EU level: European Climate Change Programme; Support to the provision of information and raising awareness in the field of climate change; Conducting research activities in the field of climate change.
